4-Dimensional Computed Tomography

Planning & Delivery

What is 4D Computed Tomography?

Tumors can move even when you are lying still. Breathing can influence the position of tumors in your body especially in the lung or abdomen. In order to precisely treat a “moving target” we have an advanced technique called 4-dimensional (4D) imaging.

What does that mean for me?

Using advanced planning technology, we can create a 3D movie loop showing the motion of your internal organs and the tumor while you breathe. Creation of this movie over time is called a 4D picture. By tracking your breathing, 4D planning allows your doctor to treat your cancer with radiation even when it moves so the treatment is right on target.
