On November 7, 2025, the Patient Assistance Foundation (PAF) hosted its 17th annual Jim Swanagin Memorial Golf Tournament (JSMGT), raising more than $229,000 for North Florida cancer patients in need.

The tournament was founded in 2008 by Lori Towers in honor of her late husband, Jim Swanagin, a former patient.

“Jim was the love of my life,” said Lori. “He was just the best guy—kind, funny, and generous. His cancer diagnosis was devastating, and despite the excellent care provided by Dr. Gaddis at CSNF, he lost his battle on August 25, 2008.”

Lori continued:

“During many hours in the chemo room, we were reminded of how fortunate we were to have not only an excellent oncologist and great nurses, but also good medical insurance. We quickly realized, as we watched the new friends we made during infusions come and go, that others were not so fortunate. He just wanted to help people, and I’m so thankful I was able to fulfill his last wish by starting the tournament.”

To date, the JSMGT has raised more than $1.5 million, all of which has directly benefited patients who need help with day-to-day living expenses such as mortgage payments, utilities, car insurance, gas, and groceries.

“Thanks to Jim’s generosity and dream, the Patient Assistance Foundation has been able to help over 625 patients with the funds it has raised,” said Lori. “The positivity and love for others that Jim lived by until the end guide us in our endeavors, as does his mantra: “Life is Good.
