Dr. Laura Lourdes is board-certified in medical oncology and practices at our Southpoint location.
Dr. Lourdes received her Doctor of Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Penang Medical College. She later completed several internships, residencies, and fellowships at the National University of Singapore, the University of Florida, and Indiana University.
Her UF connection introduced her to the North Florida area and CSNF, and she soon fell in love with both. “Working with colleagues who quickly have become friends is so fulfilling,” she says. “We all share the same goal of getting patients on the path to wellness.”
While she has never had a personal experience with cancer, she still finds it easy to relate to her patients. “I find it easy to relate to my patients,” she explains. “I find much joy in meeting and helping people from all walks of life.”
“I care… a lot,” she continues. “To quote the Dalai Lama, ‘Our prime purpose in life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them.’ This quote and way of thinking has truly influenced my philosophy as an oncologist. I just want to be there for my patients and help them through his difficult journey in any way I can.”
Dr. Lourdes provides complete care for patients with cancer and blood disorders, including lung, head and neck, endometrial, and testicular cancers.
When not in the office, Dr. Lourdes enjoys spending time with her family. Together, they enjoy hobbies like cooking, running, traveling, and her favorite, gardening. “I find gardening to be similar to taking care of patient,” she says. “You nurture and tend to it, and it produces positive results!”
