BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Zelia Bowman is board certified in medical oncology and practices at CSNF’s St. Augustine location.

Born and raised in the Caribbean, Dr. Bowman went to medical school at the University of the West Indies. After graduation, she moved to the US and completed her residency and hematology/medical oncology fellowship at West Virginia University.

Dr. Bowman provides complete care for patients with cancer and blood disorders, including lung, breast, colon, and stomach cancers.

During her second year of residency, Dr. Bowman met a young mother with relapsed leukemia. “Although this was emotionally hard, I learned the bond between a patient and their cancer team is special,” she says. “I wanted to be part of it as I admire how motivated our patients were to work towards their goals.”

She continues:

“My mission is to treat my patients the way I would want my loved ones and me to receive treatment. I always try to go above and beyond for each patient. Making them feel as supported as possible is important to me.”

Cancer personally affected Dr. Bowman when doctors diagnosed her mother.

“Cancer hitting close to home makes it that much easier to relate to the patients you’re treating,” she explains. “My philosophy is that, in the grand scheme of things, we only spend a short time on this Earth. This field has taught me how precious life is, and that it is our duty to help others live theirs to the fullest.”

When not in the office, Dr. Bowman stays busy with her children and husband. She enjoys exercise, and starts each day with a peloton work out. Planning her next travel adventure with her husband is also a favorite pastime. They have been to several countries, her most memorable being Peru where they hiked Machu Picchu!

If you are satisfied with your care, please consider leaving Dr. Bowman a review!
