High-Dose Rate Brachytherapy

HDR (High-Dose Rate) Brachytherapy is a temporary and internal radioactive source. The source, small pellets called “seeds”, remain inside a patient for up to 20 minutes to deliver radioactive therapy. Doctors traditionally use this treatment to treat gynecological and prostate cancers.

In traditional Brachytherapy, “seeds” may be left in your body for up to two weeks. The short duration and subsequent removal of the radioactive “seeds” in HDR Brachytherapy minimizes your risk to other people, such as pregnant women or young children, since there is no radioactivity in your body after the procedure.
