Dr. Satish Shanbhag is board certified in medical oncology and practices at our Fleming Island location.
Born in India, Dr. Shanbhag obtained his medical degree from Bangalore Medical College in Bangalore, India. Upon moving to America, Dr. Shanbhag completed his medical oncology fellowship at Temple University Hospital and Fox Chase Cancer Center.
Like most, Dr. Shanbhag has had personal experiences with cancer which pushed him to become an oncologist. “I have been on the other side and seen what cancer looks like from the viewpoint of a son and grandson” Dr. Shanbhag says.
Because of this, he views and treats every patient like he would a close family member. “It is critical that discoveries in cancer care in the last decade reach every patient who could benefit.”
A believer in patient-centered care and shared decision making, Dr. Shanbhag is proud to work at CSNF.
“I am privileged to be part of a team of physicians who work non-stop improve our patient’s lives,” he says.
He believes that the core mission of oncologists is to help patients live longer and healthier lives. “Helping patients transition into long term survivorship is a special feeling – we should pray and fight for more of these moments”.
Before joining CSNF, Dr. Shanbhag was the medical director of the Johns Hopkins University cancer center. He is nationally recognized for his expertise in blood cancers and conditions. He has also won numerous regional and national awards for clinical excellence and teaching.
Dr. Shanbhag provides complete care for patients with cancer and blood disorders, including thoracic malignancies and blood, liver, and pancreatic cancers.
Dr. Shanbhag is an outdoor and fitness enthusiast and enjoys spending time with his family. Together they enjoy visiting national parks, biking, and hiking.
