A recent study, published and presented, in part, by Dr. Bijoy Telivala at the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s (ASCO’s) 2024 annual meeting supports the use of symptom-logging apps. Its findings conclude that the online format is both easier and more efficient than traditional phone triage.
In 2021, the physicians of Cancer Specialists of North Florida implemented the Canopy app as a pilot program to assist patients in symptom monitoring. The goal of this program was to open a new line of communication between patients and their care teams. By introducing an easy-to-use app, patients were able to input their symptoms, concerns, or questions, and request a call back from the Canopy nurse case-manager.
The trial implementation was successful, and the Canopy app is now a staple across all 13 CSNF locations. New patients are registered at their initial appointment, and assigned to one of the now five nurse case-managers that remain with them over the course of their treatment.
CSNF is proud to be at the forefront of both cancer care and symptom management!
