KEVIN HUNGER, MD, FACP

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Kevin Hunger is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology and practices at our Fleming Island location.  After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia in German and Pre-Med, Dr. Hunger chose to remain a Cavalier to earn his Doctor of Medicine. Upon completing his internship and residency in internal medicine at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals in Atlanta, Georgia, he was invited to serve an additional year with Emory as Chief Resident at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Atlanta. Dr. Hunger then went on to complete his fellowship in oncology at the University of California in San Diego.  He then began his practice in Jacksonville and earned the distinction of FACP (Fellow of the American College of Physicians). He has clinical research in bone marrow transplantation, high dose-chemotherapy, and peripheral stem-cell harvesting. One of its original physicians, Dr. Hunger joined CSNF in 1992.

“I knew from a young age that I wanted to be physician.  During Medical School, my experience with a young patient with leukemia and witnessing the partnership among doctor, patient, and family against a challenging foe, solidified my desire to pursue cancer treatment. CSNF was designed to put the patient first by making sure we could see patients quickly and getting testing quickly so patients don’t have to wait and wonder what’s next. We also wanted to be able to integrate the various elements of oncology and take advantage, through a team approach, of the latest technologies, medicines, research, support services, and practices available in the field of oncology and hematology. I wanted to practice true patient-centered medicine, and it is a blessing to be able to at CSNF.”

Dr. Hunger’s faith serves as his primary motivation in serving his patients. “I am thankful for the grace Jesus has offered every one of us and seek to extend that love and sincere care to my patients, respecting their needs and decisions as unique individuals.”

When not in the office, Dr. Hunger enjoys playing tennis and organizing/leading high-adventure backpacking trips for his Boy Scout troop. His most favorite activity, though, is spending quality time with his wife of over 25 years.
